This course has been designed for both horse owners and those who are already practising as therapists in the industry, to give them an additional tool set. We do also have a number of other students join us who just wish to enhance their knowledge or help their horses as well as vets, physiotherapists and chiropractors.
The aim of the certificate is to provide therapists, those wanting to become therapists, or general horse owners, with the latest tools and techniques of the trade, as well as essential anatomical, evaluational and traditional chinese medicine theory.
The program contains a large amount of theory and self guided study, with case studies and one on one guidance.
Our commitment is to developing practitioners with high quality skills in the field of equine sports therapy, and developing therapists that not only have good technique and feel, but also a wealth of background knowledge on acupoints, meridians and different photobiomodulation devices.
Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBM) is the scientific term for using specific wavelengths of light—primarily red and near-infrared—to stimulate natural healing and repair within the body. This type of light interacts with cells, particularly the mitochondria, to increase energy production, reduce inflammation, promote circulation, and support tissue regeneration. PBM is widely researched and used in both human and veterinary medicine for its reliable and measurable therapeutic benefits.
How Is It Different from Red Light Therapy?
Red light therapy is a simpler, more general form of light therapy that uses visible red wavelengths only. While this light is excellent for skin, wounds, and superficial soft-tissue concerns, it does not reach the deeper structures of muscles, tendons, and joints. Red light therapy fits under the larger umbrella of photobiomodulation, but PBM goes further by also incorporating near-infrared wavelengths that penetrate more deeply into the tissues.
What About Photonic Therapy?
Photonic therapy is a term often used in animal and equine circles to describe the use of red light on acupuncture points or meridian lines. These treatments may blend modern light therapy with traditional Chinese medicine techniques. While it can be beneficial, photonic therapy typically uses lower-powered devices and focuses on point stimulation rather than comprehensive tissue treatment.
This course is a combination of theory and self guided practical application that will teach you how to use Photobiomodulation Therapy in conjunction with other therapies or as a stand alone treatment.
