Your Horse Inside and Out

$110.00

After this workshop you will walk away with an understanding of what is happening inside your horse, what each major body system requires to function well, and how feeding and management support the OTT horse as it transitions to a new career.
This will be mainly theory but with some fun stuff thrown in!

Introduction to how the horse works

This session will look at how the body is made up of interconnected systems (Muscular, Cardiovascular, Respiratory, Digestive, Nervous), what changes when a horse moves from racing to an OTT lifestyle: workload, diet, routine, turnout, body composition and fitness and what Homeostasis is.

“Find it, feel it, watch it.”
Using our experienced workshop horses, participants will take what they have learned about the horse’s body systems and see them working in the real horse. We’ll find important anatomical structures, feel normal signs such as pulse, temperature and gut movement, and watch and assess the horse’s breathing, movement, hydration and general physical condition
Nutrition and what the horse actually needs
In this session we will look at what the foundations of nutrition are, what the ridden horse requires, and how we transition from track to hack
